Walled Garden In Topsham, Devon
This cobble courtyard above is one half of a south-facing rear garden in Topsham, Devon.
Like much of Topsham the garden is in a conservation area so any changes to the garden had to be sympathetic with the existing structure and materials.
For instance, to level the cobblestone area to make it possible to stand a table, each stone had to be lifted and re-bedded onto a compacted earth bed as no mortar was allowed.
The other half of the garden is walled and is pictured below.
Here, as garden designers, our objective was to produce a family friendly garden and reduce the impact of the very valuable 1970's double garage on the eye.
As you can see our keen and knowledgeable clients are already utilising their new raised vegetable beds while the borders are being planted.
