Family Garden In Exeter, Devon
This large rectangular, south-facing, garden in Exeter, Devon was largely a flat area of grass.
The clients asked Naila to design a more interesting, colourful garden and as their children had flown the nest less lawn was required.
The deck area below is an important part of the design.
More space in which to eat and entertain free of the awkwardly placed pillars supporting their modern extension was a must.
To accommodate the larger, composite deck (much less slippery than timber decking) we had to move the existing pond further out into the garden.
The 'After' photo was taken just after the plants around the relocated pond were positioned before planting.
As you will see from the last photo, thanks to Naila's planting plan, in just a year things got very lush and 'tropical', which is what one of our clients wanted to remind him of his homeland - the North Island of New Zealand.

After the rear garden had been built and planted the clients were kind enough to ask Naila to design their front garden. It makes a garden designers day.
They wanted something that would make the front door more accessible from their parking area and be in keeping with the architecture of their house.
The brief also included an instruction to make it suitable and ready for their daughter's wedding celebrations.
Like all front gardens Naila felt that it was important that it should be welcoming, interesting and presentable at all times of the year. But bearing in mind the wedding a predominantly white theme seemed appropriate.
